Flying with a Cleaner Conscience: Our Commitment to SAF
Flying with a Cleaner Conscience: Our Commitment to SAF
At KONTOR AIR, we utilize Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF)—the most effective solution for sustainable aviation available today. SAF is not a fossil fuel; it is a synthetically or biologically produced kerosene that can be used directly in our modern engines.
What is SAF?
Sustainable Kerosene: SAF stands for Sustainable Aviation Fuel.
A "Drop-in" Solution: It is a direct replacement for fossil jet fuel.
No Modifications Required: Our aircraft and existing refueling infrastructure use it without any technical changes.
Why SAF is Carbon-Neutral
It is a common misconception that sustainable fuels do not emit CO₂ during flight. Chemically, the combustion of SAF in an engine produces approximately 3.15 kg of CO₂ per kilogram of fuel, which is identical to fossil kerosene.
The revolutionary difference lies in the cycle:
Fossil Kerosene releases "new" carbon from underground sources into the atmosphere, contributing to global warming.
SAF Recycles Existing CO₂ : The fuel operates within a closed carbon loop. Plants used for biogenic SAF absorb CO₂ from the air as they grow, and synthetic E-fuels use CO₂ captured directly from the atmosphere. We only release what was previously removed from the air.
Significant Impact: Over its entire lifecycle—from production to combustion—SAF reduces net emissions by up to 80% compared to fossil fuels.
No Compromise on Safety or Performance
SAF provides the same high performance as conventional Jet A-1. With a gravimetric energy density of approximately 42.8 to 44 MJ/kg, it delivers the power necessary for our routes across the Baltic Sea. This high energy density makes SAF far superior to current battery or hydrogen technologies for regional aviation.
Where Our Energy Comes From
We ensure that our SAF production does not compete with food crops. Our fuel is derived from:
Biogenic Residues: Used cooking oils, animal fats, or agricultural waste.
Solid Waste: Household waste or wood residues from forestry.
E-Fuels (Power-to-Liquid): The future of aviation. This synthetic kerosene is created using renewable electricity, water, and captured CO₂.
Our Promise
By consistently using Sustainable Aviation Fuel, we are drastically reducing the carbon footprint of your business travel. While global aviation continues to grow, we ensure that your ecological impact shrinks.
Welcome to the future of flight.
